How old do you have to be for braces?
While there is no exact age for children to begin orthodontic treatment, Dr Kari recommends evaluating the position of a child’s teeth by age seven. At this age, most children have a mix of baby teeth and adult teeth, making it easier to evaluate for tooth and jaw problems sooner and without surgery. Early intervention between 8 and 11 years may be necessary to correct the jaw position. Treatment with traditional braces generally requires a child to have all their adult teeth which happens between 11 and 14 year of age.
